The origins of BRICS date back to the early 2000s when the economies of these countries began to rapidly develop and attract global attention. Initially, the term "BRICS" was coined by analyst Jim O'Neill in 2001 to denote the world's fastest-growing economies. Then, in 2006, the foreign ministers of Brazil, Russia, India, and China met in New York, giving new impetus to the idea of cooperation among these countries.

In 2009, in Johannesburg, South Africa, these countries held the first BRICS summit and agreed to establish BRICS as an international organization. Since then, they have held regular summits to discuss key issues in global politics, economics, and security.

BRICS aims to cooperate in various areas such as trade, investment, scientific and technical cooperation, and development. This alliance also advocates for the reform of international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to take into account the interests of developing countries. Since January 1, 2023, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Egypt, and Ethiopia have also become full members of the BRICS group.
